Apr 17, 2018George Nelson Shaw Sr. USAF Retired, surrounded by his family, went home to his Lord and Savior at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Hospital.He was born October 18, 1936, in Wallace, WV, the son of the late Marcus “Ted” Shaw and Ellive Murphy Shaw.George attended Wallace High School. He had a distinguished 28-year military career in the United States Air Force. After his retirement, he was employed at the Louis A. Johnson VA Hospital for eight years. He was an avid bowler. He also enjoyed hunting, gardening, reading Louis L’ Amour books and watching John Wayne movies. George was a member of Calvary Independent Church of Lumberport, WV, where he served as a deacon and was loving known as the “Candy Man.” George was a lifetime member of the NRA and the Retired Enlistment Association.In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry A. Webb and John Shaw, his sister, Ann Marsh, and great-grandson, Steven Lewis Russell.George is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Norma Lynch Shaw; his son, George Shaw Jr. and wife Laurie of Hampton, VA; two daughters, Linda Kay Shaw and Mary Wood and husband Fred, all of Wallace, WV; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Wayne Shaw and wife Caroline of Toney, AL, Dr. Robert Shaw and wife Karen of Springfield, IL, and Gary Shaw and wife Jani of Wallace, WV; his sisters, Carol Binegar of West Milford, WV, and Patsy Rohr of Fairmont, WV; and numerous nephews and nieces.The family will receive friends at Dorsey Funeral Home, 701 South Pike St., Shinnston, on Sunday, April 15, 2018, from 2-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Dorsey Funeral Home on Monday April 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Thomas R. Bell officiating.
